The Story Behind Australian Opal Direct
Australian Opal Direct is a mine-to-market authority that has been wholesaling, exporting and retailing genuine Australian opal for over 40 years. Our story began in the 1960s with black opal mining at Lightning Ridge, expanded to a quarry in Papua New Guinea in the 1970s, and returned to Australia in the early 1980s to mine gold and boulder opal in Opalton, Queensland - selling at the Kuranda Markets along the way. In 2010 we opened our first retail store in Winton, the boulder-opal capital of Australia.
