It takes about 5 to 6 million years for a 1cm opal to mature.
About 95% of all opal mined from the opal fields is common or potch, that is opal that is basically one colored. Of the 5% that has some color, about 95% is only of mediocre grade - therefore only approximately 0.25 per cent has any real value at all! That 0.25% is what you see on the website today!
Opals have a unique physical structure. They are composed of silicon dioxide, which is also the major element of sand. Opals can be Solid, Doublet, and Triplet.
