The Story Behind Australian Opal Direct
A trusted mine-to-market leader the team behind Australian Opal Direct has been wholesaling, exporting, and retailing 100% genuine Australian Opal for over 40 years. Our story began in the 1960s with Black Opal mining in Lightning Ridge, followed by a quarry expansion in Papua New Guinea in the 1970s. By the early 1980s, we returned to Australia to mine Gold and later Boulder Opal in Opalton, while retailing at the Kuranda Markets. In 2010, we opened our first retail store near the Opal fields in Winton, Queensland.
From our pioneering roots to today’s globally recognized brand, we’ve built lasting partnerships across the entire supply chain. By cutting out the middleman, we offer earth-sourced, genuine Australian opals at below-retail prices directly to our customers while elevating Australia’s iconic gemstone onto the world stage.
